Thermonuclear Smoke Devil Guide

Bosses guide · Updated September 2025

The Thermonuclear Smoke Devil is the bigger, nastier version of the Smoke Devil - 93 slayer required, found deep in the Smoke Dungeon. The teleport lands at 2376, 9452 at the dungeon bottom.

It is a straightforward hard-hitter: pray magic, burn it down, and dodge the smoke AoE when it pools under your feet.

The fight

Thermy attacks with a magic-based smoke burst - pray magic and the damage is mostly gone. The signature mechanic is the smoke pools it leaves on the floor: standing in them chokes you for chip damage, so sidestep between attack cycles.

It hits harder than most mid-tier bosses, so come with a real inventory - but mechanically it is one of the simplest high-level fights on the server.

What to bring

  • Facemask or slayer helm - the dungeon's smoke still applies.
  • Magic prayer gear; the whole fight is one style.
  • Best ranged or melee you can field - it has no special defences.
  • Restore-heavy inventory; fights run a couple minutes each.

The drops

The occult necklace is the signature drop - the magic-boost amulet - plus smoke battlestaves, pet smoke devil, and the standard smoke-devil supply table at volume.

The smoke barrage

The thermonuclear smoke devil fights with magic smoke attacks - pray magic and the core damage is handled. The "thermonuclear" part is the barrage: heavier hits that land alongside the routine casts, so keep overhead coverage on for the full fight rather than flicking lazily.

He is a comfortable solo boss: no adds, no phases, just a magic-check fight in the Smoke Dungeon. That simplicity is what makes him the reliable occult and smoke-staff farm.

The occult necklace

The occult necklace is the signature drop - the +10% magic damage amulet that stacks with every other magic boost. It is the single most valuable magic neck in the game until end-game gear, which is why thermy stays farmed at every level bracket.

The smoke battlestaff is the second chase drop - a staff that provides its own smoke runes and the stat sticks for mid-tier magic builds.

The smoke dungeon route

He sits at the end of the Smoke Dungeon - a mask or slayer helm protects against the dungeon's smoke damage on the way in. The room itself is safe once you are inside, and the fight is a pure magic-check from start to finish.

A facemask or slayer helm is non-negotiable for the approach - the smoke chips you down before the fight even starts without it.

Session summary

A safe, single-style fight with two chase drops - thermy is the reliable occult-necklace farm and one of the more relaxed boss grinds on the teleport list. Bring the slayer task for the bonus and let the table pay for itself.

The smoke staff niche

The smoke battlestaff casts fire spells with smoke runes built in - the niche pick for barrage-style magic training without buying runes. It sells steadily to mid-tier mages, which keeps it worth banking even on a bad roll day.
