Kraken Guide
Bosses guide · Updated September 2025
The Kraken is the giant squid boss at the bottom of the Kraken Cove - a slayer-gated fight at 87 that runs on a simple mechanic: stun the whirlpool, then burn the boss before it resets. The teleport lands at 2285, 10017 inside the cove.
It is one of the more AFK-friendly bosses once you learn the rhythm - the fight only ends when you leave or die.
The whirlpool mechanic
The Kraken sits under a whirlpool - it is not directly attackable until you stun it with a fishing explosive or a similar item thrown into the water. The stun phase lasts until the whirlpool resets, so the fight is a repeating loop of stun-then-DPS.
The tentacles that rise to attack you are the real damage: each one hits independently, so prayer flicking against them stacks the protection. Kill the small tentacles between stun cycles.
Gear and approach
- Ranged or magic - the water gap makes melee impractical.
- Explosives for the stun phase - carry multiples.
- Prayer coverage for the tentacles - they hit fast and frequently.
- High defence off-hand; the tentacle hits add up over a long kill.
The drops
The trident of the seas, the kraken tentacle, and the pet kraken are the signature drops; the volume side of the table is herb seeds, rune items, and noted supplies. Every tradeable drop links to its GE price below.
Disturbing the whirlpool
The kraken is not on the map waiting - you disturb a whirlpool at 2285, 10017 to summon it. A fishing explosive or the right interaction starts the fight, and the kraken stays until killed or you leave.
It is a solo instance per player once summoned - no kill-stealing, but no help either.
The fight and drops
Pray magic - the kraken is a pure magic attacker. Tentacles surface around the pool and need clearing occasionally; the main kraken body is the only kill that pays.
The trident of the seas and kraken tentacle (for the trident of the swamp upgrade) are the signatures - plus a table of runes, seeds, herbs, and noted supplies. Every tradeable links below.
- Magic overhead covers the whole fight.
- Clear tentacles between phases for cleaner kills.
- The swamp trident upgrade path starts with the tentacle drop.
Trident of the swamp path
The kraken tentacle is the upgrade piece: attach it to a trident of the seas for the trident of the swamp, the toxic-charged version that carries mid-tier magic into boss viability. The upgrade path makes the kraken a permanent market - both trident tiers sell steadily on the GE.
He is a comfortable first magic boss: one style to pray against, no phase mechanics, and a fight that rewards a decent magic level more than expensive gear.
The fishing-explosive start
You need a fishing explosive or the boss will not surface - pack one per kill attempt. Once the whirlpool is disturbed, the fight runs on a predictable pattern: pray magic, kill tentacles, finish the body.
The pool resets between kills, so each attempt is a fresh summon - there is no kill-stealing, just the explosive cost per attempt.
