Ranalph Devere Guide
Bosses guide · Updated September 2025
Ranalph Devere is the wilderness prayer-switching boss at 3250, 3755 - a Kronos port that fights exactly like the demonic gorillas: protection prayers, style cycling, and boulders that punish standing still.
He drops the steel keys - the coloured keys used in the Shade Catacombs content - which makes him a niche wilderness farm.
The fight
Ranalph transforms through prayer forms like the demonic gorillas - he protects against whichever style you use, so the fight rewards switching between melee and ranged. His own attacks cycle through styles too, so watch which attack he is animating and pray against it.
The boulders drop from above - the falling-rock AoE. Move when they spawn, the same rule as everywhere.
Wilderness context
He sits in the wilderness at 3250, 3755 - expect interruption. A looting bag for the keys, a teleport ready, and nothing you cannot afford to lose is the standard loadout for any wildy boss.
The drops
Steel keys (red, crimson, black) are the signature - the drops resolve below from live data, with untradeables shown without GE links.
Gear that works on him
- Dual-style setup - melee and ranged swap to beat his prayer adaptation.
- Move when boulders spawn; the falling rocks are his only dangerous mechanic.
- Light inventory - the keys are his real value, and they are untradeable anyway.
What the steel keys are for
The steel keys Ranalph drops - red, crimson, and black - are the keys to the Shade Catacombs-style content his boss logic was ported alongside. They are untradeable, so the farm is personal: get them, then use them on the relevant locked content rather than expecting to sell them.
The low drop count is real: three keys is his whole table, which means the value of a Ranalph kill is measured in what the keys unlock rather than what they are worth.
Soloing a prayer-switcher
The trick is patience: he protects against your current style, so swap weapons the moment his prayer icon changes. A godsword into a crossbow swap covers the whole fight - melee when he prays range, range when he prays melee.
His wilderness location means the standard rules apply: do not bring your bank, keep the looting bag current, and accept that a PKer will eventually check the spot mid-kill.
Reading his prayer swaps
His protection-prayer icon is readable - the same visual cue demonic gorillas use. When it swaps, your style should swap with it; a weapon switch is faster than waiting for the prayer to change back.
The boulders telegraph a shadow on the tile before they land - step off the shadow and the mechanic never touches you.
Session summary
A niche wildy boss with a niche reward - kill him for the steel keys when you need them, and do not expect a drop table worth farming for its own sake.
The wildy context
His 3250, 3755 spot sits mid-wilderness near the fountain - close enough to the KBD lair that a combined trip is the efficient play if you are already out there for the keys.
