Chaos Fanatic Guide

Bosses guide · Updated September 2025

The Chaos Fanatic is the zealot at 2986, 3838 - a west-wilderness magic boss who drops the first pieces of the malediction and odium shard sets. He is the easy end of the shard trio: a straightforward fight with a small add.

The ancient staff he drops is the magic-boost staff alternative for anyone who cannot yet afford better.

The fight

He attacks with magic - pray magic and the fight is quiet. A green-glowing attack is the tell for his bigger hit; sidestep it if you want a clean kill.

A small chaos fanatic add joins periodically - one hit kills it.

The shard hunt

Malediction shard 1 and odium shard 1 are the signatures - the first pieces of the shield and ward you finish at Crazy Archaeologist (shard 2) and Scorpia (shard 3).

The drops

Ancient staff, sinister key, chaos-rune stacks, zamorak robes, and the wilderness table - all resolved below with GE links on tradeables.

Gear that works

Because he dies quickly, the fanatic is a short-session boss: a five-minute kill for the shard roll, a quick GE check on the pieces, and you are out before a PKer finishes their circuit.

  • Any ranged or melee setup - he has no special defences.
  • Prayer gear is enough; the fight is low-intensity.
  • A looting bag for the shards and rune drops.
  • Antipoison or a sip - he runs a small poison attack.

Where he sits in the shard run

Shard 1 (fanatic) → shard 2 (archaeologist) → shard 3 (scorpia) is the loop. Farm each in turn and assemble the malediction ward or odium shield at the end - the finished shields are the defensive rewards that actually matter, not the shards themselves.

An easy wildy starter

Of the three shard bosses, the fanatic is the entry point: west wilderness, quick kills, low mechanics. If you are new to wildy bossing, he is the place to learn the rhythms of looting-bag management and escape teleports.

His ancient staff is also a legitimately useful drop for early magic builds - the +10% magic damage on ancient spells is real value at the tier.

The zamorak robes

His zamorak robe drops are worth noting - the monk-style robes that boost prayer are cheap prayer gear for early builds, and they sell to the same players building their first prayer sets.

Between the robes, the ancient staff, and the shard rolls, the fanatic is a reasonable early-wildy farm for an account still gearing up.

Session summary

Quick kills, decent drops, and the first shard in the set - the fanatic is the opening act of the wilderness shard hunt and a comfortable first wildy boss for any mid-level account.

His little friend

The chaos fanatic add is the trivia answer nobody asks for - a tiny version of the boss that wanders in and dies to a single hit. Kill it for the clean arena and get back to the real fight.

The zamorak wine on his table is the herblore ingredient for ranging potions - worth picking up if you are stacking ingredients for a brew session later.
