Thieving Guide
Skills guide · Updated September 2025
Thieving pays you for picking pockets and cracking containers. It has three distinct training methods on this server - pickpocketing NPCs, stall-thieving in towns, and wall safes - plus the Pyramid Plunder minigame for the dedicated route to 99.
The XP split is simple: pickpockets for steady XP, stalls for faster but cooldown-gated XP, wall safes for the 1-in-500 onyx jackpot.
Pickpocketing
Right-click a pickpocketable NPC - men, farmers, HAM members, warriors, rogues, master farmers, and the full roster - and you get a success roll against your Thieving level plus a 5% bonus if you wear gloves of silence. The base success is 60% and scales with level.
On failure the NPC plays a stun animation, you take damage, and you are locked in place for a few seconds - the stun is the "caught" penalty. Rocky, the thieving pet, can roll on any successful pickpocket.
- Gloves of silence (10075) give +5% success - always wear them.
- Master farmers are the best target - herb seeds pay the coin cost back.
- The Edgeville men are the safest early spot.
Stalls
Eighteen stall types around the map each have their own level requirement, respawn timer, and weighted loot table - baker, tea, silk, wine, seed, fur, fish, silver, spice, magic, scimitar, gem, and more. Steal from one, and the stall swaps to a depleted stand for a few seconds while it resets.
The stalls inside the Edgeville safe zone never deplete - they use a 3-tick cooldown instead. That makes home the safest and most reliable stall-training spot on the map.
Wall safes and Pyramid Plunder
Wall safes at 50 Thieving crack open for a shot at loot - each crack has a 50% + level-scaling success rate, and the onyx is a 1-in-500 roll inside the loot table. Slow money, but a real long-shot chance.
Pyramid Plunder is the dedicated thieving minigame (teleport 5, 3288, 2785). Room by room, you crack urns, gold chests, and sarcophagi for artefacts while a timer pushes you deeper. It is the best focused Thieving XP on the server.
Thieving cape perk
The thieving skillcape adds +10% to your effective level on every pickpocket roll - meaningfully raising success rates on the targets that matter. Any max-cape variant inherits it.
The pickpocket economy
Thieving is the pure-profit skill: coins straight from NPC pockets, silk and gems from stalls, and the rogue's outfit doubling loot on the high-end targets. It is one of the few skills that converts directly to GE cash with zero material cost.
The standard progression is stalls to pickpockets to the Pyramid Plunder minigame at high level - the sceptre drop alone makes plunder worth the run.
Pyramid Plunder at high level
At 91+ thieving the Pyramid Plunder minigame becomes the best method - a timed room-to-room looting run where the final rooms drop the Pharaoh's sceptre, a three-charge teleport worth real money on the GE.
The rooms scale with your level, so the deeper you go the better the loot and the faster the XP - it is the rare skilling method that stays profitable to 99.
