Mining Guide
Skills guide · Updated September 2025
Mining feeds smithing, crafting, and the GE: every ore, bar, gem, and piece of pure essence starts in a rock somewhere. The rock table is the full Kronos port - clay through amethyst plus the #236 extras like blurite, limestone, daeyalt, sandstone, granite, and gem rocks.
Each rock has its own level requirement, XP, difficulty roll, respawn timer, and deplete chance - the formula is a clean percentage roll every second tick, scaled by pickaxe tier.
Pickaxe progression
- Bronze/iron at 1 - the starter tier from shops.
- Steel at 6, mithril at 21, adamant at 31.
- Rune at 41 - the standard endgame.
- Dragon at 61 - rolls +1.20 success; worth the GE spend.
- Infernal (charged) - 1-in-3 smelt procs, converts ore to bar XP.
The rock table
Clay, copper, and tin for the opening levels; iron at 15 for the first fast loop; coal at 30 for smithing feed; gold at 40 for cash; mithril at 55, adamant at 70, runite at 85; amethyst at 92 for bolt tips.
Sandstone and granite mine in multiple sizes - pick the biggest chunk for max XP. Gem rocks roll opals through diamonds on a weighted table. The Prospect option on every rock tells you what is inside before you commit a swing.
Mining Guild and Motherlode Mine
The Mining Guild gates at level 60 - doors at the Falador entrance - and the mineral area inside grants +7 effective Mining plus a shot at unidentified minerals (1/150 on iron, up to 1/30 on runite). Belona at the entrance exchanges 60 minerals for mining gloves, 120 for superior, and combines both into expert gloves - they reduce depletion on silver/coal/gold/mithril/adamant/runite.
Motherlode Mine (minigame teleport 4, 3750, 5664) is the AFK alternative: mine pay-dirt, run it through the hopper and sluice, and collect the ore from the sack. The pay-dirt rolls its own prospector gear and golden nuggets toward the outfit and upper-floor access.
Geodes and the pet
Every ore has a 1-in-250 shot at a geode that opens into a clue scroll - a nice passive reason to keep mining past the point of boredom. The rock golem pet rolls on each successful cycle too.
Mining cape perk
The mining skillcape gives a 5% chance per cycle to mine a second ore - a flat +5% yield bonus that any max-cape variant inherits.
The ore economy
Mining feeds smithing, which feeds every melee player on the server - the market for bars and ore is permanent. Iron and coal are the volume sellers; runite is the rare roll at the high end.
The Motherlode Mine on Zeah is the AFK route: pay-dirt into the hopper, golden nuggets for the prospector outfit, and gem bags that occasionally pay out big. The prospector set is a real XP boost and worth the grind.
Session summary
Mine what smiths want - iron and coal at volume, runite when you can reach it. The Motherlode Mine handles the AFK hours and pays out the prospector set for the trouble.
