Hunter Guide
Skills guide · Updated September 2025
Hunter is trapping - you lay snares and boxes, creatures approach them on their own AI, and the catch pays XP plus loot. The full trap-hunting kit is implemented: bird snares, box traps for chinchompas, and two-object net traps for salamanders.
Your trap limit is 1 plus one per 20 Hunter levels - at 99 you run six simultaneous traps, which is where the real XP rate lives.
Bird snares (level 1–29)
The starter route: buy bird snares (item 10006), find the bird hunting grounds, and Lay them on open tiles. Five bird species fill the early levels - crimson swifts, golden warblers, copper longtails, cerulean twitches, and tropical wagtails - each with its own XP and catch state.
Catches pay species feathers, raw bird meat, and bones; the feathers are fletching material, so a hunter grind also supplies your arrows.
Box traps - chinchompas (level 53+)
Box traps (item 10008) catch chinchompas - the explosive rodents that double as ranged weapons. Grey chinchompas at 53, red at 63, black at 73, with black spawning in the wilderness and on the donator island. Each level adds a new colour worth more XP and more GE value.
Chinchompas attack back if you stand close - the traps do the catching, so bait and step away. Ranged players buy these by the thousand; hunting your own black chins in the wilderness is the classic high-risk money maker.
- Red chinchompas are the workhorse ranged weapon.
- Black chinchompas live in the wilderness - bring a looting bag.
- Each trap lasts 100 ticks before collapsing - watch the timers.
Net traps - salamanders (level 29–67)
Net traps are the two-tile variant: rope + small net on a young tree, and the salamander walks into a directional catch. Swamp lizards at 29, orange at 47, red at 59, black at 67 - each spawned beside real young-tree clusters in the map.
Caught salamanders can be wielded as two-handed weapons - a niche melee option that also releases on drop for the XP.
Puro-Puro and implings
Puro-Puro (minigame teleport 8, 2591, 4319) is the impling maze: butterflies and implings flit between the wheat rows, and catching them pays jars, clues, and the full impling loot table. Dragon and lucky implings are the jackpot spawns worth camping for.
Hunter cape perk
The hunter skillcape has no active teleport bound (matching the source material), so its value is the cosmetic badge. The real end-game unlocks are the trap count (six at 99) and the black-chin wilderness loop.
Chinchompas and implings
Red chinchompas are the signature catch - the multi-target ranged weapon that powers fast slayer and monkey-guard training. They sell steadily on the GE to anyone grinding ranged XP.
Implings at Puro-Puro are the jackpot route: dragon and lucky implings carry clue scrolls, seeds, and rare drops. A jar-and-butterfly-net run is a real money-maker at the high end.
