Cooking Guide
Skills guide · Updated September 2025
Cooking turns raw catches into the food that keeps every bosser and PKer alive - sharks, anglerfish, dark crabs, karambwan, pies, pizzas, and the fourteen CoX raid foods. The cookable table covers ~59 items with exact level requirements, XP, and three different burn-stop levels per food.
You burn less on a range than a fire, less again with cooking gauntlets, and never at all once you wear the cooking cape.
Burn mechanics
Each food has a base burn chance - 55% on a range, 58% on an open fire - that interpolates down to zero at a stop level. The stop level differs by cooking surface: fires are the worst, ranges are better, and wearing cooking gauntlets (item 775) substitutes a much earlier stop level on supported foods.
Fires use the open-fire animation with no bonus; ranges, stoves, cooking pots, sulphur vents, and the player-made fire all match by definition name, so every #236 cooking object in the map works.
The Cooks' Guild
The guild door at 3143, 3443 requires level 32 Cooking plus a chef's hat - or the golden chef's hat, cooking hood, cooking cape, or a max cape. The head chef inside delivers the refusal and welcome dialogues; stairs on the middle floor climb to three levels of ranges, banks, and pie supplies.
Jug of wine and other shortcuts
Grapes plus a jug of water makes jug of wine at level 35 - 200 XP per jug, one per 2 ticks. It is the classic bulk cooking grind because the inputs are cheap and the product drinks itself.
Raw beef can split into meat or sinew through a two-option menu; seaweed to soda ash; the karambwan and anglerfish routes sit at the profitable end of the table.
- Wine is the fastest pure cooking XP at mid levels.
- Cooking gauntlets make lobsters burn-safe far earlier than the base table.
- The cooking cape eliminates burning entirely.
Cooking cape perk
The cooking skillcape never burns food - any variant (9801/9802/10658) or any max cape - which turns your 99 into a permanent cooking-gauntlet substitute on every food in the game.
The burn curve
Every fish has a burn rate that falls as you level - cooking gauntlets from the family crest quest cut it further, and the Hosidius range on Zeah reduces it again. The maths is worth knowing: a shark burns half as often at 80 cooking as it does at 60.
The play is to cook what you catch or what the GE sells cheap: raw sharks bought at the floor price cook into the food every PvPer buys at the ceiling.
Where to cook
- The Hosidius range in Zeah for the burn-reduction bonus.
- Catherby or Cooking Guild ranges for convenience.
- The rogue's den fire for the no-range-needed loop.
The money angle
Cooked food is a permanent market - PvPers buy sharks and brews by the hundreds every session. Buy raw at the floor, cook it, sell at the ceiling: the margin is the burn-rate-adjusted profit, and cooking gauntlets widen it.
Wine-making at high level is the niche: jugs of wine ferment into sellable goods with the same buy-low-sell-high math as fish.
